The most important books I’ve ever read are the ones I had to read in semi-secrecy. As someone who writes mostly for teenagers, it’s my fondest wish to have one of my books be as formative for some reader as Nancy Friday was for me. (Actually, come to think of it, maybe I shouldn’t have read Nancy Friday when I was nine.)
